Herberton Prince Edward Development Project
Underway in Prince Edward County
The Manor Resort, Spa and Residential Estate marks Herberton’s unique commitment to long-term economic development in rural south-central Virginia
Prince Edward County, VA, August 30, 2007 – Herberton Prince Edward Development LLC announced today its formal commitment to Prince Edward County—its economy, institutions and citizens—as all negotiations are finalized to begin the second and third phases of development at The Manor Resort, Spa and Residential Estate. (Phase One, The Manor Resort Golf Club, is completed and features an 18-hole championship course nestled among the rolling hills of south-central Virginia. Club memberships are available and the course is now open to the public.) The Manor Resort is a $77 million, multi-purpose recreational community located south of Farmville on U.S. Route 15.
"Herberton Prince Edward has invested over 13 months preparing the way that has led to this extraordinary new beginning for Prince Edward County,” said Michael Heffernan, managing partner of Herberton Prince Edward Development, LLC. “Through a creative mix of public and private finance, Herberton and its partners will catalyze economic development and expand and enhance tourism and strategic partnerships in education and training to build a lasting legacy for the citizens of the region.”
The Herberton Group was founded in 1998 in Atlanta, Georgia, as an advisor and consultant to entrepreneurs and high growth companies. Today, the Herberton team is equipped with expertise in structured finance, marketing, design, planning and development —with a focus on real estate development and investment. The Herberton Group’s senior executive team and its partners are especially proficient in directing residential, commercial and mixed use real estate investment and development in the southeastern United States.
The Manor Resort, Spa and Residential Estate is a 1,060-acre master-planned resort and residential community. The showcase of The Manor Resort will be the fully-restored 1840 Manor House. Slated for completion in 2009 are The Manor Resort Hotel (140 rooms), The Manor Resort Conference Center (20,000 square feet) and a full-service Spa. Other amenities will include a Fitness Center—with swimming and tennis facilities—an equestrian center, riding trails, walking/hiking trails and a 100-acre nature preserve.
"Herberton Prince Edward’s public and private partners—including Hampden-Sydney College, Longwood University, Prince Edward County and the Town of Farmville—have joined forces to create a unique and lasting economic development engine for the region,” said Mr. Heffernan. “Tourism and other recreational and hospitality industries are providing new and much-needed revenue streams for rural communities across the U.S., communities that have been hurt terribly by declines in manufacturing and agriculture. Our conservative projections indicate that The Manor Resort, Spa and Residential Estate will generate more than $47 million in new tax revenues for Prince Edward County over the next 25 years."
The Manor Resort will offer home sites on the golf course, the lake and the nature preserve, with lifestyle options to fit single family, retirement and second home buyers. Home sites will be made available for sale in the late Fall of 2007.
The Manor Golf Resort is the official home course of the Hampden-Sydney Tigers Golf Team.
